On 10th January 2000, my wife, seven-week old daughter and I moved from London to live in the small village of Lissington, in Lincolnshire. Our reasons were, to escape the squalor of London and, to be honest, the difference in the price of houses. We bought a lovely family home for considerably less money than the cost of a one bedroom flat where we had been living before.
It's certainly different from London. We have one pub, one church and no shops. The nearest town with shops is four miles away, and the city of Lincoln about 15. Things I like so far are the peace during the day, and the darkness at night. There are no street lamps, and the stars are beautiful.
I'm delighted to have left London, as I was becoming increasingly despondent over the standard of life and a seemingly indifferent population. A selection of verses from the Lamentations of Jeremiah 1, to show that there is nothing new under the sun.

This is our new home, in a village called Lissington. We have found the local people to be most welcoming and friendly. My new office is the top-left window, from which I can see the farm opposite! |
